how to become a millionaire

Why did King Solomon ask for wisdom and knowledge from God?

I was talking with Dr. Christine, a famous wellness guru, on the difference of mindset between those who are rich and those who are wealthy.

In the very beginning of our discussion, she mentioned that when Solomon first became king, God asked  him what he wanted. Solomon asked not for riches, but for knowledge and wisdom. Later, these two gifts helped Solomon to create great wealth.

Dr. Christine asked me,  “Arindam, have you ever noticed that some people who have little money seem to live very well—they almost seem to be…rich?”

I said, “Yes, I have, but I wonder what the secret behind it is.”

Dr. Christine responded, “Arindam,   it’s mostly a matter of personal choice. It’s not that money isn’t important; it’s more that we should never measure wealth solely in terms of money.”

Dr. Christine continued with the explanation on rich vs. wealthy.

She mentioned  that  the word  “rich” refers to money, whereas  “wealth” refers to something more than just money,  i.e. all the essentials in life—a total package of love, good health, good living, good job, great friends, loving family, spirituality, joy, peace of mind, plenty of time, combined with money and contentment with yourself and what you have.

“Okay, Christine,” I said, “as per you, true wealth is determined by the quality of your life and can’t always be measured, or even achieved, with money alone. If so, what’s the difference between the mindset of wealthy people vs. rich people?”

Financial Wisdom Of King Solomon
“Arindam, it’s a good question,” she continued. “Wealthy people know how to make money. Once you have the know-how, you can build sustainable wealth. Wealthy people know that money comes and money goes—it’s not a big deal. But they also know how to generate wealth when it’s gone.”

As a parting remark, she mentioned that the real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money.

I found Dr. Christine’s ideas very valuable.

How to achieve inner peace

I once I asked H H Nirmala MatajiHow can I find inner peace.  Is learning to meditate is the only solution to find inner peace & tranquility”.

Mother smiled and responded “ Son, you can’t do meditation properly if you don’t have inner peace because you can’t concentrate.”

She continued to say how to get inner peace to us on the sea beach of Ganapatiphule on 23rd Dec1993.

7 pointers for you on how to find inner peace

inner peace
1.You have first to be happy with what you have because there’s no end of desire. First you have to feel joy for whatever you have and appreciate the same.

2.Peace is beautiful; it is the manifestation of your love, and the best resolution for a brighter future. So, you have to master forgive & forget.

3.Most people suffer from an identity crisis, which robs them from their peace & happiness. It’s important NOT to give up your freedom of thought. Be yourself, and be comfortable. You shouldn’t trade your reality.

4.Life is a series of continuous natural events and changes. Learn to Accept things to be the way they truly are.

5.Every day sit for mediation for 20 to 30 minutes. This is your own time. Enjoy the silence. Observe your thought but do not concentrate on your thoughts. These few moments of purposeful solitude are important for your growth.

6.Build Loving Relationships with your spouse and others. This will help you to create real connections with their soul. This is the key to  inner peace for all.

7.Feel the excitement of Abundant Love in everything.  Feel the joy of work & the ecstasy of letting go and being one with the present moment. This is the passion. Let the Passion flow in full force in all your actions. This positive, productive effort will bring satisfaction & happiness within you.

Thoughtful awareness condition is the key of life.

This is a mental state where nothing can impact us. To achieve  & maintain that state we have to learn how to master our mind & use it more efficiently.

Mother concluded the discussion with  “Peace comes from within.  Do not seek it without.”

How to become wealthy

“Don't Gain The World & Lose Your Soul, Wisdom Is Better Than Silver Or Gold.” - Bob Marley

If you are craving to CREATE bigger outcomes in your life and LOOKING for success, and wealth, you need to become wealthy in the real sense of the word.

Let me first clarify the meaning of the word "wealthy". For me, wealthy means your intrinsic value NOT exactly your current assets because this will help you to build consistent authentic success in all aspects of life.

You may HERE to know how to crack the Code to Wealth and live rich for a lifetime or read the complete article, where I will discuss the easy habits along with 7 lessons on how to get rich.

7 Must have habits to become wealthy

1. Be happy with what you have.

"Be happy with what you have and are, be generous with both, and you won't have to hunt for happiness." -William E. Gladstone

If you always look toward tomorrow for happiness, odds are you will do the same when you attain what you’ve been dreaming of. So be satisfied and ambitious. Engineer your daily life to maximize your current fulfillment to avoid the culture of scarcity.

Lesson 1: This inner happiness will help you to become more disciplined which is necessary to amass wealth.

2. Enjoy all of your relationships fully

Never force someone to make a space in their life for you, because if they know your worth, they will create one for you. If you want love, give love.  If you want friends, be friendly.

Real relationships take effort, time and commitment. Great relationships just don’t happen because two people love each very much, great relationships happen because not only do two people love each other very much, but they also value one another and are willing to make an investment of time into the relationship – day after day.

Be a giver and share love with everybody. This is true for your personal finance also. Giving creates space. And space gets filled up again. If you feel poor, try giving some away. Remember the power of  the word 'abundance'.

Lesson 2: If you want to be good with your finances, you need to have lots of friends & advisers. Hence, it's important for you to know how to maintain relationship with everybody within your family and outside.

3. Accept that you can't control everything

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” - Lao-Tzu

The truth is there is very little in the world that we can control. So, the best solution is smile, breathe and go slowly. Be aware aware of your anger and frustration and this will help you to control your emotion.

When you quit doing the wrong things, you make more room for the things that make you happy. But However, you can improve the situation by stopping blaming people, making excuses, and procrastinating on your goals.

Lesson 3: Invest after lots if due diligence, but  remember there  still be failures, so don't lose hope because you can't control everything.

4. Success is not a skill; it is a persistent attitude

Definition of success varies from person to person. However, nobody is successful without a persistent attitude of diligent work. To be successful, you need to learn and practice some basic skills like time management and positive mind-sets.

In the era of big data, we are inundated with information. You need to build a sense to find valuable information from a rapidly changing pool of information. We feel them intensely and deeply, because they challenge us to reassess the self-image we hold of ourselves.

Lesson 4: You have to upgrade your knowledge base persistently because nothing works permanently in financial markets and investments. There will be a bull & bear market, and you need to be successful in both of these market conditions. You can read the article on 7 habits to know more on synergies & sharpen the saw.

5. Don’t let the people who do so little for you, control so much of your feelings and emotions.

Whenever we feel we’ve been treated unfairly, judged, or wronged, we have a very powerful internal reaction. This is call emotional invalidation and it is particularly hurtful for someone who is emotionally sensitive. So, you should maintain a safe distance from those people.

Lesson 5: Emotions & Investment/Business can't always go together.

6. Get rid of negative thoughts and emotions and become a more positive person.

The things you think about, focus on, and surround yourself with ultimately shape who you become. This is the biggest secret of life. So you need to choose to live with gratitude for the love that fills your heart, the peace that rests deep within your spirit.

Positive mind-sets will give you trust and will help you to eliminate nervous habits.

Lesson 6: Don't gamble with your money. Do your homework and that will give you confidence in your investment.

7. Become more confident and break away from limiting beliefs

The biggest problem that limiting beliefs cause is that they force you to live below your potential.

Here is a great article on "How to identify self limiting beliefs."

Just like an artist be creative. Avoid saying "No" because  it's self limiting. Use your creativity to improve your language. It is one of the simplest places to start being rich.

Lesson 7: You can achieve financial success by being honest because the world is full of abundance.

"My grandmother once told me, ‘Don`t let failure go to your heart and don`t let success go to your head.’"-Will Smith

improving software quality - 7tips

What are the best ways to ensure high code quality?

Here are 7 tips for project managers on how to deliver better quality code and ensure your P&L sound based on my personal experience.

Software Code Quality Improvement Process
  1. Review the architecture and ensure that the architecture team deliver proper specification  document instead of power point presentation only.
  2. In case of complex integration, ensure there is a proper & agreed upon system flow, process decomposition, service definition. Take care of middle layer architecture at the very beginning to avoid huge maintenance & performance problem later.
  3.  Time box the architecture & solution design time so that your development team has proper time for coding.
  4. Review quality of coding & unit testing frequently.  Check unit cases and its result. I always ask for verifiable test results along with test data. Ensure there is a proper error handling treatment and team develops an error handling manual for operation team.
  5. Check the release note and ensure testing/operation team can install the application without any assistance of developers.
  6. Ensure you do root cause analysis of all defects. This is key for improvements of code.
  7. I found external review of code, documentation is very important for improvement of code quality & performance. I also take external help in effort estimation as it has direct impact on my P&L.
In summary:   Software development is an art & science  both. You need to depend of highly skilled developers along with other people. You need to manage the program tightly and plan the budget properly. Never make the mistake to force developers to work extra team always.

Why am I fat?

7 Factors That Causes My Obesity

Milken Institute (a non-profit, nonpartisan think tank) in California found that  a direct link exists  between spikes in technology usage and increases in obesity rates in 27 countries between 1988 and 2009.
As per the research for every 10 percentage point increase in communication technology (ICT) investment, the obesity rate of that country climbs 1.4 percentage points, on average.

I was aware that alcohol, fast foods are responsible for obesity but I was surprised to discover that the heavy usage of technology is also a secret reason for my pot belly.

After discovering the health problems associated with obesity, I decided to find out what factors actually led to my obesity.

Here are the 7 habits which made me fat

 1. I used to sit for approximately 7 to 12 hours per day in front of a computer or TV.

sitting for long time  is bad
Sitting for a long time is bad.

Actually obesity is more than just an imbalance of calories. Cells themselves are also responsive to their mechanical environment. Fat cells produce more triglycerides [the major form of fat stored in the body], and at a faster rate, when exposed to static stretching.

So to avoid a bigger bottom, I started using a gym ball for sitting at home.  I started a small walk after lunch.

Update  on 2nd March'12
I reduced 9 kilos after 2 months. Now, I'm more serious. My next target is to 90 kg  by mid April'13.

I started following fun fitness. I just purchased adjustable height stand-up workstation along with Joe anti-fatigue mat from Amazon last month. I'm using them for last one week and feeling good.

Here is the video on
LifeSpan TR1200-DT Treadmill Desk which motivated me enough to try using standing work desk. I'm also using Spenco insole recommended by orthopedics at Lilaboti hospital, Mumbai.

2.  I used to drink more than 10 cups of tea and coffee with sugar in at the office. I found that I used to drink only 2 glasses of plain water each day. This forced my body to retain more water which causes problems like constipation and bad sweat odor.

Drink More Water
Researchers from Virginia Tech confirmed that dieters who drink two 8-oz. glasses of water before their three daily meals lose about 5 lbs. more than dieters who do not drink pre-meal water.

I started sipping green tea at lunch because it kick-starts my metabolism and can help fend off breast cancer, says Jonathan R. Cole, M.D. And, I started drinking coffee with breakfast as it improves the metabolism. All other times I just drink plain water.

My dietician Mrs.Priya Chauhan told me the importance of Chlorogenic acid which is a key to weight loss. This is being attributed to green coffee bean. The active compound is believed to work by slowing down the release of glucose into the body after meals while at the same time boosting metabolism. These two mechanisms work together to inhibit the absorption of fat and eliminate weight gain.

3.  I started avoiding late night dinner & parties. Instead, I adopted a healthy lifestyle & diet.

Get Sleep to lose weight
During my research, I found that lack of sleep lowers the levels of leptin in blood and heightens the levels of ghrelin, which results in an increase of appetite. Good sleep also secrets enough growth hormone which improves metabolism.

I started taking dinner at 8 PM and going to sleep at 11:00 PM every day after a brief walk for 30 minutes. This helps me to jump start everyday without any anxiety & stress.

4. I used to stuff food into my mouth, instead of eating . I started using chopsticks instead of a fork to slow down and pick up each piece of food carefully.

This is one step toward changing certain eating patterns and behaviors to be more mindful of, or pay more attention to, eating habits.

I adopted few more behavioral changes associated with mindful eating like regular mealtimes, eating only in one place, such as at the dining room table, using smaller plates, eating slowly, taking small bites, taking a sip of water between bites and chewing food at least 15 times before swallowing.

5. I was addicted to computer games. I stopped playing them and started participating in various outdoor games. I joined a gym to improve my stamina & metabolism.

This worked. My stamina has increased. Recently I completed 5K running in 45 minutes. I was inspired by Peter & Wendy. Click the link to know more on 5k Running for a cause where Peter & Wendy explained how running changed their life style.

6. I stopped unmindful snacking at the  office desk or in front of  the TV.   I identified that stress & exhaustion are the main binge triggers for me.  I started practicing meditation to increase my will power.

7. I guess quitting smoking and the use of some drugs regularly for blood pressure also contributed to my obesity. I think regular breathing exercises and yoga will help me in the long term.

In summary, being tech-sophisticated made my life become more sedentary, and a sedentary lifestyle was one of the reasons for my obesity and obesity-related diseases.
